Peacoats Compliance and Certification Guide for DTC Brands: 2026 Guide No.638

2026-10-01 News 0 views

For South Korea, peacoats are a core cold-weather line, and getting the sourcing right decides whether the season is profitable or painful. The notes below work as a checklist for DTC Brands that need a garment which performs in cold weather and still hits the target cost.

Where the Price Actually Comes From

Payment terms are part of the price: a discount paid for with a larger deposit is not a discount. Watch the exchange rate and the raw material index, because both move the cost of peacoats during a long season. Most price gaps between quotations come from a different material grade or a different lining, not from factory margin. Ask for a cost breakdown by component; it turns a price argument into a specification conversation. Freight, duty and inland handling can add more than the factory price difference, so compare landed cost, not FOB.

Market Demand and Season Timing

The strongest peacoats programmes share one habit: they are planned against a calendar rather than against a departure date. South Korea is a demanding market for peacoats because buyers there compare weight, warmth and price in the same conversation. Since peacoats are a seasonal category, late delivery is worse than a small price increase, because unsold stock has to be carried for a year. Cold-weather categories sell on trust, and peacoats are no exception: a single batch that underperforms can cost a whole retailer relationship.

Supplier Selection and Vetting

A factory that can show recent peacoats export documents is usually a safer partner than one that only shows samples. Request the production schedule before you pay the deposit, so you can see where your order sits. Ask for the names of two buyers already running peacoats programmes and speak to them directly. Ask the factory how many peacoats lines it runs and whether your order shares a line with another buyer. Visit or video-audit the line; a five-minute walk-through reveals more than a page of certificates.

Packaging, Labelling and Shipping

Cartons for peacoats should be specified with board grade, carton size and a drop-test requirement. Insist on moisture protection in transit, because damp cartons are a common cause of mould claims in winter shipments. Label every carton with the PO number, size, colour and quantity so that receiving is quick and accurate.

What Goes Into the Garment

Cheap substitutes usually appear in the lining and the trims, so inspect those areas first. For peacoats, the construction matters as much as the fabric: watch the double-breasted layout and lining. The performance buyers pay for is wind resistance, and it comes from the dense wool melton combined with careful make-up.

Inspection Points Buyers Should Book

The critical test for peacoats is weight and felt density, and it should be run on the production batch, not on a golden sample. Wash, wear and abrasion tests tell you more about real performance than any laboratory photo. Measure a full size set against the graded spec sheet, and record every deviation, however small. Insist on a pre-shipment inspection against an AQL plan, with the report sent to you before the goods leave.

Five Boxes to Tick Before You Order

Sign, approve, inspect, pack, document. Those five verbs separate a calm season from a costly one.
