Litter Mats Sourcing Guide for Kennel and Cattery Suppliers: the 2026 season Guide No.62

2026-10-02 News 0 views

Buyers in Spain now review litter mats lines twice a year, and the factories that are ready with samples early win the repeat business. The notes below work as a checklist for Kennel and Cattery Suppliers that need a product which is safe for animals and survives daily use.

Lead Time and Order Planning

Build a buffer of seven to ten days between the ex-factory date and the sailing date for the unexpected. Split large programmes into two or three deliveries so that early stores are fed and later stores are not overstocked. Book capacity in advance for peak months; a factory that is full in August cannot rescue a late October order. Confirm the packaging materials and the labels before production starts, since late packaging delays the whole line.

Getting the Goods to Market Intact

Retail-ready packing removes a handling step at destination and reduces damage claims. Label every carton with the PO number, SKU, colour and quantity so that receiving is quick and accurate. Plan the sailing, not the shipping date: the production calendar should work backwards from the arrival window. Insist on moisture protection in transit, because damp cartons are a common cause of mould and corrosion claims.

Understanding the Cost Structure

Watch the resin, textile and metal index, because all three move the cost of litter mats during a long season. Ask what the price would be at double the quantity; the answer shows how much of the quote is fixed cost. Freight, duty and inland handling can add more than the factory price difference, so compare landed cost, not FOB. Payment terms are part of the price: a discount paid for with a larger deposit is not a discount.

Quality Control That Prevents Returns

Agree in writing what happens if the inspection fails, including who pays for rework and re-inspection. Insist on a pre-shipment inspection against an AQL plan, with the report sent to you before the goods leave. Book an in-line inspection at 30 percent completion: that is the cheapest moment to fix a problem. Measure a full sample set against the specification sheet, and record every deviation, however small.

Documents and Certifications to Request

Keep the safety documentation with the shipment; without it, a claim becomes almost impossible to defend. Confirm that the test house is accredited and that the report names your product, not a generic specimen. Pet products with claims such as non-toxic or natural need traceability, so keep the certificates on file.

Materials and Construction

The quality buyers pay for is trapping efficiency and cleanability, and it comes from the EVA foam or PVC honeycomb combined with careful finishing. Chewable or contact surfaces need documented material safety, so require the certificates before the sample stage. For litter mats, the construction matters as much as the material: watch the edge sealing and hole geometry.

Buyer Checklist

Specification signed, sample approved, inspection booked, packing confirmed, documents ready. Tick these five boxes and your litter mats shipment will most likely arrive as planned.
